Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw over 1000 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally close to 20,000. The total positive count rose to 19835 with the detection of 1078 new cases.

While 721 cases were detected from quarantine centres, record 357 cases are local contacts.
Of the fresh cases, a whopping 371 people were tested positive in Ganjam district, which is way ahead of Khurda's 121. Rayagada, with 96 cases, is at the third spot.

It was followed by Malkangiri with 66 cases, Cuttack with 57 cases, Jagatsinghpur with 35, Jharsuguda 34, Sundergarh 29, Puri 28, Bargarh 26, Gajapati and Kendrapara with 24 cases each, Sambalpur 20, Nabarangpur 17, Keonjhar 16, Koraput and Kalahandi with 15 cases each.

With 9277 tests during the past 24 hours, the highest number so far on a single day, the cumulative RT-PCR tests conducted by the State health authorities stand at 4,10,921. Odisha's positivity rate (11.62) is higher than the national average now.

A total of 400 patients recuperated and were discharged on Tuesday, taking the total recoveries to 13,309. The state has 6387 active cases as of now.
