Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID-19 cases in the capital city breached all previous records on Wednesday with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) reporting the highest single-day spike of 370 cases in the last 24 hours. With the sharp spike in the cases, the coronavirus tally in BMC crossed the 6000 mark and reached 6,077 today.

Of the new cases, 204 were detected from quarantine centres, while 166 are local contact cases, the highest so far in the city. All the new positive cases have been shifted to COVID hospitals, BMC informed.

According to a BMC tweet, Pathara Bandha area in Vani Vihar registered highest 14 cases followed by Reserve Police Colony (8).

Of the 166 local contact cases, 10 are from Saheed Nagar followed by Baliapata Basti (7) while Sikaharchandi Vihar, Patia and Unit-9 reported five local contact cases each.

On the other hand, BMC reported 150 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Of the 6,077 cases, 2201 are active. While 3,840 have recovered from the disease, the death toll in the city is at 30.
