Odisha Forms Technical Committees To Monitor Covid-19 Treatment

Bhubaneswar: Alarmed by rising cases of Covid-19, the Odisha government has constituted multidisciplinary technical committees to oversee the treatment facilities across the State.

The technical committees formed by Medical Education and Training Directorate comprising senior professors from seven medical colleges will visit all the 30 districts and ensure round the clock monitoring and provide technical assistance to Covid health facilities.

The panel formed in SCB Medical College and Hospital which consists of nine members will oversee the treatment facilities in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Dhenkanal and Angul districts. Similarly, the MKCG panel will review treatment in Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Boudh and Kandhamal.

VIMSAR panel has been entrusted with Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Bargarh and Deogarh districts while SLN medical college panel will look after Covid scenario in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts.

The technical committee of FM Medical College and Hospital will review treatment facilities in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts while charges of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts have been handed over to the technical committee of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital.

“The committees will suggest necessary advice to doctors to bring the death rate in State further downward,” said Health Department Additional Chief Secretary Pradipta Mohapatra adding that the death rate in the State remains low in comparison to other states.

Earlier on Tuesday, CM Naveen Patnaik directed officials to adopt a location-specific strategy to curb the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak in Khurda, Cuttack, Sundargarh and Rayagada, as these districts are emerging as the biggest COVID-19 hotspots in the state.

About 32 per cent of 20,388 active cases in the state are from these four districts, an official said.

During a review meeting, the chief minister also asked officials to increase the number of tests for the infection across the state. He congratulated the district collectors and health officials for their services to stem the spread of the coronavirus outbreak and conduct over 50,000 tests a day.

As the number of asymptomatic patients is rising in the state, Patnaik asked officials to encourage treatment at home with the help of the elected representatives of panchayats and members of COVID Care Committees.

The chief minister also said the plasma therapy application should be improved as it has proved to be effective for the critical patients.

Odisha has so far reported 64,533 COVID-19 cases, while 45,315 patients have recovered and 362 died due to the disease. The health department has already tested over one million samples for COVID-19.
