Balasore: Irate over arbitrary dumping of personal protective equipment (PPE), masks and gloves on street, locals of Sutei village in Balasore district staged a demonstration on Sunday. The villagers today blocked the road to the dedicated COVID Care Centre in the area demanding proper disposal of the PPE kits.

The villagers alleged that despite several complaints, no step has been taken yet to ensure systematic disposal of used protective kits as per protocol which is essential in the ongoing fight against coronavirus.

“Dumping of discarded and used protective kits can result in potential spread of coronavirus in the area. Such irresponsible behaviour of the concerned authorities is unacceptable,” said a villager.

“Family members of a COVID-19 positive patient are openly roaming around and distributing things to people. One of the family members is also a ward member and Anganwadi worker. The administration must take immediate steps for home isolation of the family members of the COVID positive patient,” alleged another villager.

Meanwhile, the concerned district administration officials could not be contacted over the matter.
