Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday fixed the number of retail outlets that will be allowed to procure and sale Favipiravir Tablets to be used for treatment of home-quarantined Covid-19 patients in the State.

“In view of the increasing trend of COVID-19 positive cases in the State and corresponding increase in home quarantined patients, Government has been pleased to allow use of Favipiravir Tablets by such home quarantined patients,”  read a notification issued by the Directorate Of Drugs Control, Odisha.

Apart from supply of Favipiravir Tablets through government channels, the government has also proposed to make available the drug through chemist shops duly licenced under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, the notification said.

The Directorate has allowed up to 40 retail outlets to procure and sell the drugs under the five municipal corporations namely Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), Sambalpur Municipal Corporation and Rourkela Municipal Corporation.

All the drugs inspectors of the State have been directed to identify more retail outlets over and above the outlets identified so far, but the total must not exceed the district- wise allocation. They have also been asked to ensure that the order of the Directorate is complied with at the time of sale of drugs.
