Bhubaneswar: Amid a record surge in the daily cases of coronavirus infection, Odisha registered another grim record after 12 COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals lost their lives in the last 24 hours. The spike has taken the death toll in the State to 247.

As per the information provided by the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department, 3 persons have succumbed to the disease in Sundergarh district, 3 in Ganjam, and one each in Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, Sambalpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal and Gajapati district.

The deceased patient list includes a 55-year-old male from Mayurbhanj who was suffering from hypertension, a 36-year-old male of Kendrapada district who was also suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease, a 78-year-old female of Sambalpur district suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Similarly, Bhadrak and Dhenkanal reported one death each. They were also suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

The deceased in Gajapati was a 34-year-old youth suffering from kidney disease.

Earlier on Thursday, the COVID-19 pandemic had claimed 10 lives in Odisha.
