Bhubaneswar: The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in Cuttack is likely to hear the petition filed by Odia film actor Barsha Priyadarshini against her husband, actor-turned-MP Anubhav Mohanty accusing him of physical and mental torture.

Barsha Priyadarshini has filed miscellaneous cases under section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

In her eight-page petition, the actress alleged that Anubhav is a 'professional drunkard' and used to come home late at night and behaved with her in an unsocial manner.

Barsha further alleged ‘Anubhav loses his consciousness whenever he drinks and uses filthy language and assaults’ her with his hand and stick. Anubhav’s family members were also ill-treating her and deliberately trying to show Barsha and her family in very low esteem, the actress added in the petition.

"On June 7, my husband and his father rebuked me in filthy language for 2 hours. On June 11, my husband asked me to agree for mutual divorce and threatened me with dire consequences if I did not agree,” Barsha alleged in her petition.

Barsha stated that her husband has extramarital relationship with many girls and he is a heartless human being. She said that after marriage, Anubhav and she acted in many films but she was not given a single penny for her work, and the Parliamentarian allegedly started harassing her mentally.

Meanwhile, Barsha's advocate Ramakrushna Rath while speaking to OTV said the Kendrapara BJD MP used to drink a lot and come home at around 3 am.

"He (Anubhav) used to cast other heroines in his films and have many extra-marital relationships. He even refused to pay Barsha for working in some movies with him. She will definitely get justice," said Rath.

Meanwhile, the parliamentarian's wife opened up about the matter on Sunday and wrote in her Facebook account that no one is above the law and truth will prevail.

" Truth can never remain hidden. One should fear God before blaming someone with fake and false allegations. I have complete faith in my almighty. Nothing above law. I need blessing of each & everyone in this toughest time which I am going through, trying to break the silence .............. much respect & love to you all. JAY JAGANNATH," read the post shared by the actress.

The BJD MP also came up with a press statement into the matter yesterday. "It’s always said that marriages are made in heaven but they fail quite several times. And my marriage is not the first one or the last one to fail," said Anubhav.

Anubhav further stated that he loved Barsha deeply and married her. "I deeply respect Barsha for the successful woman she is. My marriage has been in bad shape since long. I have tried my level best to reason, to explain, to understand, and to make amends; unfortunately, things did not shape up as expected," added the parliamentarian.

"Hence, it seemed the best way to part ways amicably. I and my family sincerely tried our best for a mutual separation just because we were concerned about each other’s social image and dignity. Only after failing in this I had no other option left rather than filing for a divorce petition in the Hon’ble Court Of Law. I filed my divorce petition in July 2020,' said Anubhav.

Anubhav further said that he has full faith in the Almighty, the judicial system, and in the good sense that must prevail upon all.
