Rairakhol: Akrura Sethy is a health worker and ideally should be receiving a hero's welcome in the times of COVID19, but such has been the scourge of the pandemic that he lives like an outcast.

Akura, who is working as a dresser at Rairakhol sub-divisional hospital, has taken shelter under a tree outside his village as his entry has been restricted. As per reports, Sethy has put up a cot on the roadside and with some clothes and his bike has been spending his nights there while attending hospital every day without straying from his duty. His wife and his children could only see him undergoing such hardships, but cannot go near to him.

According to Sethy, “Three patients got infected with coronavirus recently at the hospital. One staff came in contact with the patient and contracted the virus. I don’t know whether I have come into contact or not. There is no such confirmation regarding this. There is a possibility of coming in contact with the villagers. So as a precaution, I am keeping myself isolated.”

He further said, “Villagers don’t want me to come into the village without undergoing COVID-19 test as Rairakhol Hospital has reported positive cases. That is why I am staying under this tree."

Sarojini Sethy, wife of Akrura said, “People from the village suggested us to take precautions and not to come in contact with him as he is working in a hospital.”

“We gave him a bed and take food to him every day,” she added.
