Containment Zone Declared In Bhubaneswar After Detection Of COVID-19 Cases

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday declared Subhash Nagar slum in Dumduma area as ‘containment zone’ after several COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the area.

As per BMC officials, six COVID-19 cases have been detected from Subhash Nagar slum in the last two days.

BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary informed that one COVID-19 positive case was detected yesterday while five more tested positive today.

“A person with travel history to Delhi had earlier tested positive for COVID-19. The remaining five cases are active contacts linked to the Delhi returnee,” said Chaudhary.

Chaudhary further informed that as Subhash Nagar slum is a densely populated area with nearly 300 households, it has been declared as containment zone.

“Active surveillance and contact tracing activities will be undertaken for the next seven days. All the positive cases are asymptomatic cases. If no positive case is detected during active surveillance, necessary steps will be further taken to extend or de-contain the area,” Chaudhary added.

The area coming within the boundary as indicated below is hereby declared as the containment zone:

• Hanuman Mandir (Dumduma) near NH-5 to the intersection of Plot No 373 and Plot No 323 Dumdums via Shani Temple
• Intersection of Plot No 373 and Plot No 323 Dumduma to the intersection of Plot No 261 and Plot No 258
• Intersection of Plot No 261 and Plot No 258 to Hanuman Temple near NH-5 via Shani Temple and Dinabandhu Fair price shop.

BMC officials informed that no public shall be allowed to move into the containment zone and the inhabitants within the containment zone shall not move out.

The supply of essentials and medical requirements will be ensured through various teams formed by BMC. All the government and private Institutions located within the boundary of the containment zone will remain closed, said BMC.

Out of the total 27 new COVID-19 cases detected in Khurda district, 19 have been reported from Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area. Of them, four were under home quarantine and 15 are local contact cases.
