Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 death toll in Odisha rose to 12 on Saturday with a 60-year-male from Puri district succumbing to the disease, informed health and family welfare department.

As per the health department, the COVID-19 positive patient was undergoing treatment at the hospital. He was also suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

There seems to be no let-up in the overall COVID-19 situation as positive cases continue to see an upward trend in Odisha. As many as 179 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking Odisha’s tally to 4856 on Saturday.

A highest of 57 cases were reported from Ganjam district, followed by Khurda  (27), Keonjhar (18 ) and Cuttack (15). 18 NDRF and Odisha Fire Services personnel, who had returned from Amphan duty in West Bengal, have also tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, India reported highest single-day spike of 14516 new COVID-19 cases and 375 deaths in last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 tally to 3,95,048 on Saturday. The death toll in the country stands at 12,948.
