Cuttack: The row over newborn theft in SCB Medical College Hospital here, took a new turn on Saturday with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) claiming that, either hospital staff or somebody close to them is involved in the matter. The incident occurred a few days ago in the facility, after a destitute woman admitted in the government facility gave birth to a girl child.
Chairman of OSCPCR Kasturi Mohapatra visited SCB Medical today morning and emphasized on installing CCTV cameras to prevent such type of incident from occurring in the hospital in future. She was of the opinion that, the theft of the newborn from Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) seems to be a handiwork of some known persons.
“It seems the entire episode of the child theft is executed by some persons close to the hospital”, Mohapatra opined while talking before media.
Similarly, Cuttack Collector Nirmal Mishra also visited the government medical facility and emphasized on tightening the security in the hospital. He categorically mentioned that, visitors register should be maintained regularly in SCB to put a check on such type of activities.
Notably, the Bashundhara Child Line got a destitute mentally retarded woman admitted in SCB medical a few days ago. At that time the woman was pregnant and gave birth to a girl child a few times later. The child got vanished from the SNCU while on treatment.
