Bhubaneswar: BJD corporator K Shanti of ward no 56 has been elected as the deputy mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Wednesday. It was declared formally by the BMC commissioner.
Setting aside all speculations, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared the name of the woman corporator for the deputy mayor post of Bhubaneswar civic body on Wednesday morning.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened at Naveen Niwas here on Tuesday night where senior party leaders including three MLAs of Bhubaneswar were present. Speculation was rife about a woman being nominated for the deputy chief post for the civic body with 38 of the 67 wards won by members of the fairer sex.
Shanti, a two-time corporator, was among the frontrunners including Mahamaya Swain, outgoing deputy mayor Bharati Singh and party top brass Damodar Rout’s daughter Pritinanda Routray for the post.
