Cuttack: The commissionerate police today arrested Pramod Kumar Mohanty (53), an under-trial prisoner (UTP) from Jhanjirmanagala area in the city two days after his escape from the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
As informed by Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, Mohanty, a native of Mathasahi in Tulasipur area, was arrested the Bidanasi police on July 7, 2013 in connection with the murder of his own brother Pravat Mohanty. He was later forwarded to the court which remanded to Choudwar Circle Jail.
“On June 8, Mohanty was taken from Choudwar Circle Jail with tight security to SCB Medical College and Hospital here and admitted in the TB Ward. But while undergoing treatment, he managed to escape from the Ward at about 6.30 AM on June 10. On the report of Niranjan Das, Senior Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail, a case was registered. The police, in course of investigation, traced his whereabouts. Later a team of Bidanasi police, led by the IIC arrested him from a house in Jhanjirmanagala area of the city today,” Arora said.
He said the police will forward Mohanty to the court later in the day.
