Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD and Opposition BJP have raised eyebrows in political circles in the State by staging demonstrations and dharna on the same day today.
While BJD will stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar alleging negligence of the Centre towards farmers of the State, BJP will organise demonstrations in front of office of all 314 blocks today to protest against the attack on Union ministers at Bargarh last week.
BJP is alleging the attack on the vehicle of Union minister Santosh Gangwar, who was on his way to attend the Vikash Utsav at Bargarh, was done on the behest of the Chief Minister.
It has said the BJD deliberately timed its protest against alleged Central neglect to deflect attention away from the attack on the Union minister.since the BJP had already announced its decision to stage a protest on the issue the same day.
Meanwhile, the BJD has said the Centre is neglecting agriculture as well as farmers and demanded an increase in minimum support price for paddy. They allege the Centre is trapped by capitalists.
Besides, the ruling party in the State said the Centre is not providing funds, which it should have done to an underdevelopment State like Odisha. Due to cut in Central grants, Odisha government is set to lose Rs 37,000 croers in Central assistance, BJD said.
