Balasore: Police on Tuesday cracked the brutal murder of Tanmay Panda alias Kunu -the younger brother of dreaded gangster Papa Panda-following arrests of three accused involved in the case.
Addressing a press conference, Balasore SP Niti Sekhar informed that nearly 10 persons had earlier intercepted Tanmay, who was travelling on a motorcycle near OT Road and attacked him with sharp weapons on January 24.
The accused have been identified as Chandra Rao, Abhi Jena and Jiten Murmu.
Police said, the attack was the fallout of the ongoing rivalry between two criminal gangs that are active in the area. One gang was controlled by deceased Tanmay's brother Papa and the other gang was led by Animesh Ghose, sources said.
Both the gangs were at loggerheads for rights over sand quarries in the area.
Tanmay was attacked by 10 persons who had come in four motorcycles near Laxminarayan Temple at Satsanga Vihar within Industrial Area police limits.
Tanmanya, who sustained critical injuries on his head and face, was rushed to the Balasore district hospital where doctors declared him dead.
