Bhubaneswar: Hours before the announcement of an official notification for campus polls at colleges and universities across Odisha, authorities of three colleges in Bhubaneswar today cancelled the process for students’ union polls this year citing pre-poll violence and disturbances in their premises.
While the authorities of College of Basic Science and Humanities issued a notice on cancellation of the campus poll mentioning pre-poll violence, the City Women’s College decided not to hold the students’ union poll this year.
Suryasnata Satapathy, Principal of City Women’s College, said, “As mid-term exams are being held in the college from September 3, it is not feasible for us to participate in the process for campus polls.”
Notably, last year also, the City Women’s College did not hold campus polls.
On the other hand, students of the Capital Law College are sitting on a dharna demanding campus polls after the college authorities decided not to hold the election.
Meanwhile, colleges and universities across the State will issue notification on campus polls today after examining the situation on their campuses.
Poll aspirants will file nominations tomorrow, as per the notification issued by Higher Secondary Education department earlier.
Final list of poll candidates will be declared on October 1 after scrutiny of the nominations. The campus poll will be held on October 5.
