Keonjhar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday alleged large-scale irregularities in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) at Pithagala panchayat under Harichandanpur block of Keonjhar district.

Launching a scathing attack on ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), saffron party leader Dhanurjay Sidhu said, “Some tainted middlemen, contractors having links with the BJD and government officials have embezzled funds under the scheme.”

According to reports, a fact-finding team of the BJP visited Keonjhar district and unearthed irregularities in the PMAY fund utilisation.

“We went to one Mamata Juanga’s house in Kharba village and found her residing in a kutcha house with her one-year-old son. Even though Rs 1 lakh was sanctioned for her under the scheme, she is yet to receive a single penny,” Sidhu added.

“The government is saying the full amount will be paid after geotagging but the actual scenario in the village is completely different. We demand stringent action against the persons involved in the irregularities,” Sidhu alleged.

Earlier in March, allegations of gross irregularities in PMAY had surfaced in the State with instances of ineligible beneficiaries getting benefits under the central housing scheme being reported from Puri and Baripada.

The alleged irregularities in Brahmagiri block under Puri district and Shuliapada block in Mayurbhanj district had led to widespread resentment among people in the region. It was alleged that people were allotted houses on the basis of party affiliation.

No comments could be obtained from the government officials or the ruling party members.
