Bhubaneswar: For the first time on Thursday, Bhubaneswar recorded its biggest daily spike in COVID-19 local contact cases. As per the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), a whopping 237 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported on Thursday including 132 quarantine cases and record 105 local contact cases.
It is for the first time that a record 100-plus COVID-19 local contact cases have been reported from the smart city.
With this the total COVID-19 tally in Bhubaneswar reached 4,595, with 1,551 active cases and 3,015 recoveries.

The COVID-19 death toll in Bhubaneswar is 23. If we look at the COVID-19 statistics, 200-plus COVID-19 cases were reported thrice earlier from BMC area- 237 cases on August 13, 248 cases on July and 215 cases on July 28.
Khordha district now tops the list in the State with highest 3,041 active cases.
Earlier, Odisha recorded a biggest daily spike of 1981 COVID-19 cases. Of the new positive cases, maximum 274 cases were reported from Khordha district followed by Ganjam with 267 cases, Kandhamal (179), Sundergarh (145) and Cuttack (131), informed I&PR department.
With increase in number of testing, Everyday 2,000 - 2,500 tests are being done in BMC. Testing nos. will further increase in coming days.
