Bhubaneswar: The crime rate in the State capital continues in an upward trend with incidents of loots, snatchings and smuggling of contrabands becoming a regular affair in the city raising serious questions over the law and order situation.

In yet another incident of snatching, two motorcycle-borne looters snatched wallet and mobile phone from a woman near a shopping mall at Rasulgarh square in the city.

According to reports, the two were in a bike having no number plate forcibly took valuable articles from the woman and fled spot by taking wrong traffic rout.

Within a span of one month Bhubaneswar city has reported several loot cases with similar modus of operandi.

In a similar incident, girl riding a scooter was robbed of her gold chain by miscreants on motorbike on October 6 under Sahid Nagar Police limits.

In another shocker, two bike-borne miscreants attacked a food delivery boy and snatched his mobile phone on a busy street near Pahala on October 8.

On the other hand, Commissionerate Police on October 8 nabbed five suspected Highway-robbers allegedly involved in many loot incidents in the recent past.

However, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are grappling with a steep rise in robbery and snatching incidents. Sources said that many loot cases are also underreported in the state capital.
