Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) on Tuesday made it clear that it was not investigating gang rape of a minor but probing the allegations of workplace harassment brought by the girl's mother.

"As this is a women’s commission, the matter related to the alleged gang rape of the minor girl is not being investigated by us. The girl’s mother had lodged a complaint with us alleging harassment at workplace and we are looking into it,” SCW chairperson, Minati Behera said.

Behera said the commission had sought documents in this regard from the Odisha Television Ltd (OTV) and the channel authorities have submitted all the relevant papers.

“Yesterday, we had directed the news channel to submit the documents by 12.30 pm today. As per the direction, a representative of OTV MD submitted all the documents to us today within the deadline. The news channel authorities are extending full cooperation in the matter,” Behera said.

“We have constituted a special team comprising a legal assistant, a chairperson and other members to examine the documents. We will scrutinise the documents and fix the next date of hearing,” she said.

Behera further said the commission is yet to receive the probe report sought from the Commissionerate Police (CP) in the matter. “We have issued a reminder to the CP to submit the report as soon as possible,” she added.
