Berhampur: With the Covid-19 situation in Ganjam district showing signs of slight improvement, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has decided to lift the restrictions on travel to and from the city imposed on residents and outsiders.

“The restrictions imposed on entry into and exit from Berhampur have been lifted with effect from 24th August,” the BeMC informed through a tweet. The restrictions which were imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus will be withdrawn from tomorrow.

The civic body has also extended the timing of market from 5 AM to 8 PM in its jurisdiction during weekdays to be effective from tomorrow. However, the weekend shutdown will continue as per the order of the government.

Ganjam district which once remained as the Covid-19 hotspot and reported highest number of daily cases is now registering relatively less new positives. In the last 24 hours, 271 new cases were detected in Ganjam while Khordha reported 606 cases, the highest by any district in the State.

The district has reported 16,349 confirmed cases of coronavirus of which 2977 belong to Berhampur Municipal Corporation. The civic body has 222 active cases while 2,711 have recovered from the disease so far. Besides, 44 Covid-19 related fatalities have been reported under the BeMC so far.
