Cuttack: Odia film actor Barsha Priyadarshini is likely to move Supreme Court requesting transfer of the divorce petition filed by her husband, actor-turned-MP Anubhav Mohanty from Delhi's Patiala House Court to a court in Odisha.

Speaking to media, Barsha's counsel Ram Krushna Rath said,"Barsha has no brother or father and she is cannot afford to travel Delhi to attend the case hearings. Therefore, she is planning to move to Supreme Court seeking transfer of the divorce case from Patiala Court to Cuttack's family court."

Meanwhile, the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in Cuttack today deferred the hearing of the domestic violence case filed by Barsha Priyadarshini against the Kendrapara BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty to October 12.

Barsha's petition filed under miscellaneous cases under section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act was deferred by the SDJM Court as the district protection officer (DPO) had not submitted Domestic Incident Report (DIR) in connection with the case.

"As the protection officer is yet to submit DIR, the SDJM Court said that the case cannot be taken up further and deferred the hearing to October 12, 2020. I will request the protection officer to record the statement of the concerned persons and submit the report through the Collectorate in the court," said Barsha's counsel Ram Krushna Rath after the first hearing of the case.

"No one from Anubhav's side was present in the court today. They had earlier said that they did not receive any notice in connection with the case. I do not know why they are hiding," added Rath.

In her eight-page petition, the actress alleged Anubhav is a ‘professional drunkard’ and used to come home late at night and behaved with her in an unsocial manner.

Barsha further alleged ‘Anubhav loses his consciousness whenever he drinks and uses filthy language and assaults’ her with his hand and stick. Anubhav’s family members were also ill-treating her.

"On June 7, my husband and his father rebuked me in filthy language for 2 hours. On June 11, my husband asked me to agree for mutual divorce and threatened me with dire consequences if I did not agree,” Barsha alleged in her petition.

She said that after marriage, Anubhav and she acted in many films but she was not given a single penny for her work and claimed that her husband has extramarital relationship.

However, the BJD MP in a press statement said that the two were not in good terms since a long time and the parliamentarian had tried his level best to come to a mutual understanding with his wife but unfortunately things did not shape up. Without any alternative, Anubhav filed a divorce petition in July this year.
