Balasore: In view of the COVID19 pandemic, the Balasore district administration is gearing up for postal ballot voting system for elderly people in the upcoming by-polls to Balasore Assembly Constituency.

According to reports, the postal ballot system will be introduced for coronavirus positive patients, voters aged 80 years and above and divyangs.

Meanwhile, the Balasore administration has deployed booth-level officers and launched a door-to-door survey in this regard. The move by the administration has been welcomed by the senior citizens of the district.

“This is a welcome move by the government at this point of time. It will help elderly people to cast their votes without going to the polling stations,” said a senior citizen.

“As per the district administration's directive, we need to collect the data of senior citizens, COVID19 patients and divyangs, who are willing to avail the facility. We will submit the details after which they can cast their votes through postal ballot,” said a booth-level officer.

The by-elections to Balasore Assembly constituency and Tirtol will be held on November 3. The by-polls to both the seats have been necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLA Madan Mohan Dutta ( Balasore) and sitting BJD legislator Bishnu Das (Tritol).
