Balasore: In a major jolt to Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ahead of by-polls, Balasore Sadar block chairman Nayaran Chandra Pradhan has quit the party and joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Pradhan, claims to have support from sarpanchs and samiti members of 18 gram panchayats, joined the saffron party. He says that he decided to change the flanks after being inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ideology.

“I will work under the leadership and ideology of PM Modi. I am fortunate that by joining BJP, I got a bigger platform,” said Pradhan.

Notably, the by-election for Balasore along with the Assembly constituency of Tirtol will be held on November 3.

By-polls to both the seats have been necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA Madan Mohan Dutta ( Balasore) and sitting BJD legislator Bishnu Das (Tritol).

It may be noted that while the Balasore seat was secured by the Opposition BJP, the ruling BJD represented the Tirtol constituency.
