Even as Odisha boils under intense heat wave condition, the forecast of rain and thunderstorm by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is likely to provide some relief to people.

The IMD has issued a ‘yellow warning’ for thunderstorm and lightning activities in seven districts of Koraput,Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khordha in the next 24 hours. However, there is unlikely to be any large change in the maximum temperature (Day Temperature) during the next five days over the State.

"Maximum temperature will be more than 40 degree Celsius at many places and likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha during next four to five days,” the country's premier weather forecaster said.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khordha.

Day-2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.04.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 17.04.2022)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Ganjam.

Day-3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.04.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2022)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Angul and Dhenkanal.

Day-4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2022 up to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2022)

Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj
