Rainfall predicted in several Odisha districts in next few days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall across Odisha over the next five days.
Starting from December 17 and continuing till December 21, heavy rainfall is expected in southern Odisha, particularly in districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Rayagada.
On December 19 and 20, the state witnessed rainfall along the coastal areas like Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur. The IMD predicted thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds during these two days.
On December 20 and 21, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places across several districts in Odisha.

Yellow Warning has been issued for these days, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning in districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur and Deogarh.
“Rainfall is likely all over Odisha over the next five days with prospects of light rain in the next 48 hours. But districts Ganjam and Gajapati may also witness rainfall within 24 hours”, said IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty.
The overall weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy.
Farmers, especially those growing paddy, are advised to keep their crops in safe places to avoid damage from the expected rain. The IMD has asked farmers and residents to take precautions, including protecting standing crops and ensuring proper drainage systems.
