Odisha to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and hail till March 23

The Collectors have been asked to remain alert and submit a report on damage if occurred due to thunderstorms, whirlwinds, hailstorms, or lightning immediately for the information of the state government, the SRC office said in a release.

Thunderstorm alert for Odisha districts

The office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Wednesday directed Collectors of various districts in Odisha which are likely to experience thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty winds, and hail in the coming days as per the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Collectors have been asked to remain alert and submit a report on damage if occurred due to thunderstorms, whirlwinds, hailstorms, or lightning immediately for the information of the state government, the SRC office said in a release.

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty winds, and hail till March 23, 2025.

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 20.03.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.03.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at few places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Boudh, Angul, Jajpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.03.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.03.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Sonepur.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.03.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 23.03.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.03.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.03.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal.
