The Southwest Monsoon has set in early over Kerala on Thursday and is advancing into parts of North-East India, informed IMD. While Monsoon normally sets in over Kerala on June 1 and advances to North-East parts of India in the next couple of days, it has arrived early this year due to favourable conditions, the IMD said.
The early onset may be attributed to Cyclone Remal which formed over the Bay of Bengal last week.
Now, as per IMD predictions, Kerala is expected to receive above-normal monsoon showers of around 6 percent more this season. Reports said heavy rainfall accompanied by thundershowers is most likely to lash most parts of the state from this evening or tomorrow till June 2nd.
Meanwhile, the IMD also predicted that the prevailing heatwave condition will reduce gradually as most parts of India boiled at around 45-52 degrees Celsius.
The same sizzling temperature was also reported from several parts of Odisha with Titilagarh in Bolangir becoming the hottest city in the state touching 46 degree Celsius. Jharsuguda followed Titilagarh at 45.6 degree Celsius while Sambalpur recorded 45.2 degree, followed by Hirakud at 44.8 degree Celsius.

Similarly, Rourkela witnessed 43.6 degree Celsius while Keonjhar recorded 41.2 degree and Bhubaneswar boiled at 39.8 degree Celsius.
However, with the onset of monsoon, locals are hopeful of relief from the excess heat. Director of IMD Bhubaneswar Manorama Mohanty also predicted light to moderate rains with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds on June 1 & 2.
