The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted a rise in the maximum or day temperature in Odisha. IMD's Bhubaneswar regional centre director, Manorama Mohanty informed that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees in Odisha.
“In the next five days, several isolated places in Odisha will experience thunderstorm activities with lightning. Apart from this, a heat wave is also likely in the next 24 hours due to high moisture content,” said Mohanty.
Mohanty further informed that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees in the next 2 to 3 days. This will lead to hot and humid conditions on May 28 and 29 and heat wave conditions are likely in Jharsuguda, Sundagarh, Sambalpur, Bolangir and Nuapada on May 29 and May 30. On May 30 and June 1, there will be rainfall activities with thunderstorm activities in some parts of the state.

According to the IMD director, there is a possibility of a timely onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala. Only after the monsoon sets in Kerala, we will be in a position to predict its arrival on the Odisha coast, she added.
