  • The system is very likely concentrate into a Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha

The formation of low pressures over the Bay of Bengal has invoked positive response from people in the State as several parts of Odisha were reeling under a possible drought-like situation till August end. This is the second back-to-back low pressure to be formed over Bay of Bengal this month.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the current low pressure area over east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level. The system is very likely to move north-westwards and concentrate into a Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha-West Bengal coasts during next 48 hours.

It is very likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during subsequent 2-3 days, IMD said in a release.

The IMD has also issued heavy rainfall warning for one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Cuttack and Khordha in the next 24 hours.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for next five days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 11.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 12.09.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Cuttack and Khordha.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 13.09.2021)

Orange Warning (Be Prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Jajpur.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 13.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 14.09.2021)

Orange Warning (Be Prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bolangir and Sonepur.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nuapada, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendrapara.

Day 4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 14.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 15.09.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Keonjhar.

Day 5 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 15.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 16.09.2021)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.
