Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has formed over the East-central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.

As per IMD, the low pressure system is likely to become more marked during the next 24 hours. “The system is likely to move west-north-westwards towards Odisha coast during the next 48 hours,” tweeted Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

 

IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Thursday predicted increase in rainfall activities in several parts of Odisha from September 26, 2021.

"The cyclonic circulation and low pressure will trigger heavy rains in several parts of Odisha from September 26. Interior parts of the State will experience heavy rainfall on September 28,” said Mohapatra.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for next five days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 24.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 25.09.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Sundargarh.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 25.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 26.09.2021)

Yellow Warning(To be updated): Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada.

Heavy rainfall also likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur.
