  • IMD issues heavy rainfall warning for several parts of Odisha.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that a low pressure area has formed over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts.

The low pressure system has developed under the influence of a cyclonic circulation and is likely to move west-northwest wards during the next two to three days.

The system is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha in the next 48 hours.

“Under the influence of west-northwestward movement of the Low Pressure area or its remnant cyclonic circulation, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over south Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha and south Chhattisgarh between September 5 and September 7, 2021,” the IMD said in a release.

 

As per IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi in the next 24 hours.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for next few days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 06.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 07.09.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi.  Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada, Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar.

Day 2 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 07.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 08.09.2021)

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar.
