The Odisha Government on Sunday directed all district collectors to remain prepared to deal with emergencies that may occur due to heavy rainfall activities under the influence of a low-pressure area likely over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

In a letter to the collectors, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena has asked the collectors to closely monitor the situation and take immediate action in case of any emergency.

The SRC has also asked to circulate the warning message among the public.

“The Cyclonic circulation over northeast & adjoining east central Bay Of Bengal now lies over north & adjoining east central Bay of Bengal and extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over north & adjoining central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours,” mentioned the SRC in the letter.

Heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over several district of the State from September 5, 2021 (1.30 pm) to September 8, 2021 (8.30 am), added the SRC.

Due to likely formation of low pressure area over north & adjoining central Bay of Bengal, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50kmph very likely over west-central adjoining north Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast during September 6 and 7.
