Ahead of the three-day Raja festivities which begins on Monday, the Southwest Monsoon covered entire Odisha on Sunday. As a result, several parts of the State continue to experience heavy rainfall under its influence, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

A yellow warning has been sounded by the IMD predicting rain and thunderstorm in several parts of the State in the next 24 hours. As per IMD, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40 -50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal till June 15.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal adjoining westcentral Bay Bengal till Tuesday.

“The low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal persists. Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwest wards with height. It is likely to move west-northwest wards across Odisha, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh during next 2-3 days,” said the IMD.

In a release, IMD also confirmed that southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Odisha and thus it covered the entire State today.

In view of the heavy rainfall warning, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed district Collectors to closely monitor the situation.

Day-1: (Valid upto 0830 Hrs IST of 14.06.21): Light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur at most places over the districts north Odisha and many places over the districts of south Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore , Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 14.06.21 to 0830 Hrs IST of 15.06.21.)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Deogarh and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Bargarh and Jajpur.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 15.06.21 to 0830 Hrs IST of 16.06.21.)

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Sambalpur.
