Depression to intensify into deep depression within 24 hours, rainfall likely in Odisha: IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday informed that several districts of Odisha may witness rainfall between November 28 and December 1, attributed to the development of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
As per initial reports, the low pressure has now evolved into a depression, most potent in the southern central sections of the Bay of Bengal. It is anticipated that this will move northwestwards, potentially escalating into a deep depression later today. However, the IMD predicted its immediate influence on the state to be moderate.
Under the impact of the deep depression, there is a possibility of light showers across various districts. The light shower is expected for the coastal districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, and other nearby areas.

Despite the potential for rain, the recent cold conditions, marked by heavy fog in certain areas, are expected to persist. Residents are advised to remain updated with the local weather bulletins for any changes or advisories. The weather department also appealed to everyone to take appropriate measures to stay warm and travel safely, particularly in fog-prone regions.
“Now, the system has taken the form of a depression and lays centered in the central part of south Bay of Bengal and other nearby areas and is expected to move towards north westwards and will intensify into a deep depression within next 24 hours,” informed Manorama Mohanty, Director IMD Bhubaneswar.
“Later, it will further move north westwards. It will mostly move towards Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts. There will be no direct impact on Odisha. There are chances of slight rainfall in the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur. However, there is very rare chance on rainfall,” she added.
Experts suggest that the evolving weather patterns should not cause undue concern at this stage, but vigilant monitoring of forecasts remains advisable to anticipate any unexpected developments that may affect daily life.
