Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Yaas has made landfall between the north of Dhamra and south of Balasore . The process will take around 3-4 hours to complete . As earlier the very severe cyclonic storm was hurtling at 15kmph towards north Odisha coast, almost all models had predicted the landfall place between Dhamra and Balasore.

Cyclone Yaas Current Status

As per the latest IMD bulletin, the location of cyclone location at the morning hours today is at 20.8 Deg N and 87.3.

The coordinates show the Cyclone Yaaswas near Dhamra, when seen from the north direction, but the distance ( longitude) shows the cyclone is nearing to in between Dhamra and Balasore.

The Evidence

The coordinates show that the latitude of Dhamra is 20.79the length (distance) is Dhamra at 86.90 degEast.

The coordinates of Balasore are 21.49 deg N and 86.91 deg East.

Since Cyclone Yaas has been pinpointed at 20.8 degree North in the morning hours, it seems Yaas will not exactly make landfall at Dhamra.

Going by the coordinates, the Landfall will take place at around 21 deg north and 86.9 deg East -which means to the north of Dhamra and south of Balasore.

Landfall Time

As the system is moving at around 15 kmph, in just a couple of hours(2.5 hrs), the landfall will start.

The landfall process will take nearly 4-5 hours to cross the Odisha coast and drive it’s way to the inland.

Post Landfall

The districts on the left side of Cyclone Yaas will face the wrath. The districts are: Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Dhenkanal.

By evening, rain will envelope districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and even few places in Sundargarh.

Wind Speed

  • Cuttack and Bhubaneswar: sustained wind speed 40kmph and gust at 60kmph.
  • Evening: Mayurbhanj to see gusting wind at 113 kmph.
