Cyclone Dana: Danger Signals hoisted in ports across Odisha; Indian Coast Guard mobilises vessels

The Odisha government has hoisted Distance Cautionary Signals at ports across the State due to Cyclone Dana. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the Bay of Bengal until October 26. The Indian Coast Guard is on high alert with vessels and aircraft mobilised for swift response. Coordination with local authorities ensures preparedness. Around 800 cyclone shelters are ready in Odisha for evacuation.

Danger signal-2 hoisted in ports across Odisha

The Odisha government has hoisted Distance Cautionary Signals at ports across the State keeping the rough sea condition in view due to the several cyclonic storm Dana.

While warning signal 4 has been hoisted at Paradip and Dhamra ports, warning signal 2 has been hoisted for Gopalpur port.

When depression or deep depression intensifies into a storm and still out at sea, Distant Warning signal No. II (DW II) is hoisted. 

Warning for Fishermen

The MET has advised the fishermen not to venture into east-central Bay of Bengal till October 24.

Besides, they have been asked to not sail into adjoining areas of west-central Bay of Bengal on October 23 and 24 and north Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha during October 23 to 26.

Indian Coast Guard Mobilises Vessels & Aircraft for Swift Response

Besides, the Indian Coast Guard has been put on high alert and it has mobilised its vessels and aircraft to respond swiftly to any contingency owing to the Cyclone Dana that will bring torrential rain in Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal.

The Indian Coast Guard said in a statement that it is on high alert, with its dedicated personnel and assets ready to provide assistance, rescue and relief.

"The ICG has mobilised its vessels and aircraft, positioning them strategically to respond swiftly to any emergency situations," the statement read.

Coast Guard personnel are working in coordination with the local administration and disaster management authorities in West Bengal and Odisha to ensure a coordinated and effective response, it added.

The ICG deployed helicopters and remote operating stations at Haldia in West Bengal and Paradip in Odisha to broadcast regular weather warnings and safety advisories to fishermen and mariners.

Odisha Gears Up for Cyclone Dana

Odisha, which is likely to bear the brunt of the cyclone, has kept ready around 800 cyclone shelters for people to be evacuated from vulnerable areas. Apart from 800 cyclone shelters, an additional 500 temporary shelters have been made ready including in schools and colleges.

Food, water, medicine, electricity and other essentials are kept in readiness for the people to be evacuated due to the impending cyclone.
