The deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a Cyclonic Storm on Wednesday. It will subsequently intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 24 and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 night and October 25 morning as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting up to 120 kmph.
Sharing details about the movement of the cyclonic storm, Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said, “The Cyclonic Storm will intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 night and October 25 morning. Its wind speed will be around 100-110 kmph gusting up to 120 kmph.”
As per the regional weather office, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore will experience a wind speed of 100-110 kmph.
Similarly, in Mayurbhanj it will be around 80-90 kmph. Puri and Cuttack will see a wind speed of 60-80 kmph. The wind speed will be around 60-70 kmph in Jajpur, Khordha, Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanla and Keonjhar.
While Sundargarh and South Jharkhand will experience a wind speed of 50 kmph, Angul, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sambalpur and Deogarh will see a wind speed of 40-50kmph.
The wind forecast will be valid from October 24 to 25.

Several places in coastal Odisha like Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Puri, Jajpur, Khordha, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj likely to experience rainfall activities starting from today evening or night.
Several places may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 24, while extremely heavy rainfall is expected at few places. A red alert has been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Cuttack.
An orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Puri and Nayagarh. Similarly, a yellow warning has been issued for Ganjam, Angul, Boudh, Deogarh, Sundargah and Kandhamal.
On 25 October, several places in Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall. A red alert has been issued for Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
An orange alert sounded in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack. A yellow alert has been issued for Sundargarh, Deogarh, Khordha and Puri.
