‘Nation First’: Bihar man delays wedding by two hours to attend ‘mock drill’
In an extraordinary act of patriotism, a groom from Bihar chose to put his civic duty above his wedding ceremony, delaying the occasion to partake in a nationwide mock drill aimed at preparedness for potential air strikes amidst increasing tensions with Pakistan.
Sushant Kushwaha, a resident of Purnia district, was scheduled to lead his wedding procession, locally known as a 'baraat,' at 6:00 PM on Wednesday to the bride's village 40 km away in Araria. However, he postponed the traditional departure to take part in a government-mandated security exercise.
Speaking to media persons, Kushwaha expressed his satisfaction with being involved in the drill, coinciding with the Indian Army's recent missile strikes on terror positions within Pakistan.
“I am thrilled, not only because it is my wedding day but because today marks a proud moment for our country as our armed forces have acted decisively,” he said. His family was notified in advance of his intentions to join the exercise. Purnia was one of the 244 districts across India selected for this extensive security measure.
Upon concluding his duties at the drill, Kushwaha returned around 8:00 PM to rejoin the waiting baraat. He stated his decision was instinctive, reiterating that national service takes precedence.
“Just like our soldiers leave their own weddings to defend the nation at the borders, we must also be prepared to respond in times of need,” he added.
