The population of Orangutans has been significantly declining over the years. Oil palm plantations, mining, forest fire, human encroachment, logging, road constructions, etc. are the prime reasons for which these great apes are losing their habitat. Amid this, a video is doing rounds on the internet that shows an orangutan fighting back a huge bulldozer to protect its habitat.

Rapid urbanization across the world has resulted in deforestation. As a result, wild animals are losing their habitats. Among all animals, Orangutans are facing a significant threat from habitat loss due to all these reasons. Meanwhile, the population of these primates has been significantly declining over the years. Oil palm plantations, mining, forest fire, human encroachment, logging, road constructions, etc. are the prime reasons for which these great apes are losing their habitat. Amid this, a video is doing rounds on the internet that shows an orangutan fighting back a huge bulldozer to protect its habitat.

In the video, the orangutan is seen walking on an uprooted tree towards the huge machine. The primate hit the bulldozer with its forearms and slipped down the tree. Some people even tried to shoo away the giant ape from the location, but it is seen once again walking towards the bulldozer.

Reportedly, the heartbreaking incident was captured in Sungai Putri forest, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, which is home to over 1000 orangutans. It is reportedly, one of the last habitats in the world for Bornean Orangutans.

While the Indonesian government has vowed to protect the area from commercial exploitation, there are several illegal logging outposts operating under the cover of night.

As reported, more than 100, 000 orangutans have been killed between 1999 and 2016 making this species endangered. Due to habitat loss and food scarcity, the orangutans are forced to enter human settlements leading to human-animal conflict.

Well, The Dodo reported, the particular orangutan, that fought back the bulldozer to save its habitat, was rescued by International Animal Rescue.

The video and report originally made by The Dodo, is shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Nature is Amazing. While the video has reached over 3.6 million viewers, it is liked by over 35K users. The comments section is also flooded with demands for raising more awareness for saving the orangutans from extinction.
