Smoking and consuming contraband is a punishable offence and this is applicable in public transport services too. At present, smoking or consumption of alcoholic substances in trains or on the premises of any railway station is offensive. Such activities can also attract penalties. However, this continues unabated.

On Monday, a video surfaced on social media in which a girl is seen smoking while standing near the toilet of a bogie. The video was shared on Twitter by Parmanand kumar Saw who claimed that a group of girls smoked ‘Ganja’ (weed or marijuana) and cigarettes inside the train, all night long.

Saw, who seemed to be a co-passenger of the girls, tagged Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Railway Minister of India. As per him, the incident took place on the Tatanagar-Katihar Express.

Further, Saw wrote in his post that the girls boarded the train in Asansol.

In response to the post, Railway Seva requested Saw to share detailed information on the journey.

Railway Seva’s response read, “Sir, we request you to please share the journey details (PNR/Train No.) and Mobile No. with us preferably via DM. You may also raise your concern directly on http://railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or dial 139 for speedy redressal."

The post has triggered mixed reactions from users. While several went on to lash out at Saw as such incidents are quite frequent, some others penned down hilarious comments.
