After Atul Subhash, Delhi café owner dies by suicide amid divorce settlement with wife

In a heart-wrenching incident, a founder of a famous café in Delhi reportedly died by suicide on New Year’s Eve amid divorce from his wife. The deceased, 40-year-old Puneet Khurana was found hanging at his residence.

Puneet was found hanging in his room in Model Town’s Kalyan Vihar area, with cops suspecting it was a death by suicide. As per preliminary reports, Puneet and his wife Manika Jagdish Pahwa, were in the middle of getting a divorce. The duo, who owned the Woodbox Café in Delhi, was allegedly engaged in a dispute over the takeover of the café, sources said.

“We are getting a divorce, but I am still a business partner… you need to clear my dues,” Puneet’s wife can be heard saying in a viral audio. 

According to family members, he was very upset with his wife. The two had got married in 2016. The investigating officers recovered Puneet’s phone and called his wife for questioning.

Puneet’s death comes in the wake of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s suicide case who left behind a 24-page suicide note, accusing his wife and relatives of harassment for alimony before taking the extreme step. The 34-year-old deputy general manager of a private firm died by suicide in December.

Under severe social media pressure, Subhash’s wife Nikita Singhania and her mother and brother were later arrested and sent to judicial custody.
