A new online fraud is now rampant on WhatsApp where the fraudsters send a link on the same and advise the users to click the link offering free mobile phone recharge. The criminals send messages with malicious links via WhatsApp.
Apart from falling prey to these scams, the trend of people forwarding such messages without verifying the facts is reportedly compounding the problem.
Meanwhile, the PIB has come up with a video sharing the basic details for people to save themselves from the online scamsters. In the video, it has categorically mentioned not to:
- Fall for fake mobile recharge offers
- Click on suspicious links as it could lead to data and information theft
- Get engaged with such links like ('free recharge')
- Click on any malicious URL might direct you to websites that may contain malware
What to do in case you get such a fake message?
1. Do not click on any link
2. Do not forward the message
3. Do not provide personal information
4. Delete the message
