Spin bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s batting performance has plummeted in ODIs in recent times. The star utility all-rounder was not able to perform with the bat in the recently-concluded Asia Cup.
Ahead of the ODI World Cup to be played in India, former India opener turned commentator Aakash Chopra has raised concern over Jadeja’s performance with the bat.
As per Chopra, Jadeja’s strike-rate has plummeted in the ODI format in the last four years. The former opener pointed to the numbers and said that Jadeja’s career strike-rate of 84.2 was higher than what he had been batting at (79.4) since the 2019 ODI World Cup. He pointed out that Jadeja’s batting average since 2019 has been considerably better (39.4) against his career average (31.9).
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has stressed the need for the lower order players to perform with the bat. Earlier Sharma had mentioned that it is the modern way of playing cricket and India could not have their lower-order not contributing with the bat to the team total.
The Men in Blue have tried out two spin bowling all-rounders in the ODI format - Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. While Axar’s performance with the ball has been poor, Jadeja has been dismal with the bat in the 50 over format.
