ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 is just around the corner. However, several top stars across different teams have picked up injuries. From India’s Axar Patel to Australia’s Travis Head, let’s have a look at some of the injured players going into the mega event.
Axar Patel (India)
The spin bowling all-rounder suffered a strain in his left quadriceps while playing against Bangladesh in the Super-4 stage of the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2023. Axar may not feature in India’s three-match ODI series against Australia. However, the team management is optimistic that he can recover in time for the World Cup.
Shreyas Iyer (India)
The aggressive middle-order batsman’s long-term back injury came back o haunt him during Asia Cup 2023. He played the opening two matches of the tournament. However, he picked up a back spasm ahead of the Super-4 stage and could not play any further in the tournament.
Naseem Shah (Pakistan)
The speedster picked up a shoulder injury while facing India in the Super-4 stage of the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. The 20-year-old pacer might not play any part in the upcoming mega event.
Haris Rauf (Pakistan)
The star pacer also picked up injury during their Super-4 tie against India in the Asia Cup. The pacer is expected to make a full recovery for the World Cup.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)
The Sri Lankan spin bowling all-rounder missed the Asia Cup due to a thigh strain that he sustained during the Lanka Premier League.
Anrich Nortje (South Africa)
The star pacer has been dealing with a lower-back injury. He made a return during South Africa’s second ODI against Australia but walked off the field after bowling just five overs. Nortje could be a huge miss for the Proteas giving his vast experience in Indian Premier League.
Travis Head (Australia)
The aggressive batter picked up a fracture on his left hand during their ODI series against South Africa. It is a huge blow for the five-time champions as Head had started to form a great partnership with David Warner.
