As per sources, Shubman Gill is being considered as the next Test captain of Team India.

Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket

Team India captain Rohit Sharma has already announced his retirement from Test cricket. The veteran batsman made the announcement ahead of the Indian cricket team's Tour of England, that starts on June 20.

Earlier, it was expected that Rohit would lead the side in India's upcoming Tour to England that consists five matches in the longest format. It will also be the start of India's campaign in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.

However, it has been learnt that the BCCI selectors had made up their mind to sack Rohit as the captain of the Test team and groom a youngster as the skipper of the team for the next World Test Championship cycle.

As per sources, Shubman Gill is being considered as the next Test captain of Team India.

Rohit was recently going through horrible form in the longest format of the game for some time.

Meanwhile, former India chief selector MSK Prasad feels that the presence of Arshdeep Singh, Sai Sudharsan and Kuldeep Yadav is a must in the squad for the five-match Test series in England. 

In a recent interview, former India head coach Ravi Shastri had also thrown his weight behind Sudharsan, who is currently in brilliant form in the ongoing IPL 2025 and has the experience of playing county cricket.
