Rohit Sharma loses another toss, becomes first captain to lose most number of tosses in ODIs for India

India is all set to bowl after captain Rohit Sharma lost the toss to New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner in the last group stage match of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday in Dubai. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first.

This was the 13th consecutive time that India has lost the toss in ODIs under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

While India still has a chance to play in the semi-final, no matter what the outcome of today’s match is, fans aren’t too happy with Rohit Sharma losing so many tosses. Today’s match will determine group standings and semifinal pairings, serving as a momentum-building contest ahead of knockouts. 

Talking about India vs New Zealand matches, the Kiwis hold a 10-5 advantage over India in ICC tournaments, including a recent 3-0 Test series whitewash in India. However, India won their last ODI World Cup semifinal clash in 2023. In the Champions Trophy history, this marks only their second meeting.
