Zaheer Khan's criticism

Following LSG's humiliating defeat against PBKS, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan openly criticized the pitch. The former India speedster sarcastically suggested that the pitch seemed curated by PBKS, highlighting the lack of any home advantage for LSG.

Moreover, LSG captain Rishabh Pant, admitted that they misjudged the pitch conditions, expecting a slower wicket more conducive to their spin bowlers. However, the pitch favoured PBKS's fast bowlers, who dominated proceedings. According to Pant, unexpected pitch played a pivotal role in LSG's defeat.

Concerns by Fleming and Rahane

CSK coach Stephen Fleming and KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane also echoed similar concerns about Chepauk and Eden Gardens pitches respectively.

While Fleming raised his voice by saying that there was 'no home advantage', Rahane's subtle suggestion that pitches should favor spin was met with a firm rejection from the Eden Gardens curator.

Wider debate

As per many experts, the criticisms from three prominent franchises have ignited a wider discussion about pitch preparation practices in the IPL.

There are debates whether  teams should have more say in the conditions at their home grounds? The inconsistency across venues is clearly impacting team strategies and potentially diminishing the home advantage that is a crucial aspect of the tournament.
