Glenn Maxwell will miss the remainder of IPL 2025 due to injury
Punjab Kings are grappling with a setback as two vital overseas players, Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson, will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to injuries.
With a potential six matches left, granted they progress to the play-offs, Punjab Kings are yet to fill the gaps left by these core squad members. Maxwell, sidelined by a finger injury, sustained his setback ahead of the fixture against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai, Marcus Stoinis, his Australian compatriot, revealed.
Simultaneously, New Zealander Lockie Ferguson is out with a groin injury picked up earlier in the season during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team’s bowling coach has since confirmed Ferguson will not return for the rest of the tournament.
The Head Coach, Ricky Ponting, has acknowledged the difficulties in finding suitable replacements with the simultaneous running of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has attracted significant talent such as David Warner, Alzarri Joseph, and Daryl Mitchell.

"We've been patient, considering the PSL is happening simultaneously, but quality replacements are scarce," Ponting remarked. "We're also scouting Indian talent, having engaged several young prospects to train with us. They may soon secure a Punjab Kings contract. We hope to finalise our squad before the 12th match."
Ponting added that they are planning to assess some promising players further during their Dharamsala training session, potentially offering contracts as soon as this week.
