The second ODI between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack halted after six overs of play in the second innings as the floodlights went off on Sunday.

The development occurred when India were batting in the second innings while chasing a victory target of 305 against the visitors.

India were in a great position at that point of the match with 48 without wicket in just 6.1 overs. While captain Rohit Sharma was batting on 29, his deputy Shubman Gill was on 17.

The unfortunate development left the players frustrated. Rohit was seen shaking his head in disappointment.

Meanwhile, most of the people in the crowd turned their mobile lights on. Rohit had a chat with the umpires. Subsequently, the players had to return to the pavilion in frustration.

As per reports, the match was halted for around 25 minutes. The game resumed after the technical glitch in the floodlight was addressed on war footing and the situation normalized.

Several fans expressed their dissatisfaction over the development.

“The situation was unfortunate and it occurred due to the lackadaisical attitude of the administration,” rued a fan.

“Barabati gets an international match after long time. Now, it will be difficult for OCA to host another international match following the unfortunate development,” said another fan.

“India had a great momentum in the second innings. The openers were going with great guns. Now, their momentum has been broken. The administration will be fully responsible if India lose the match from a great position due to the technical glitch,” said a third fan.
